Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday accused BJP leaders of trying to mislead people on the issue of farm loan waiver. Speaking to reporters, the minister said farmers across the state are happy with the government decision to waive farm loans, but the BJP is trying to mislead them.
Speaking about the BJP’s padayatra from Ramanagara to Bengaluru, demanding a complete waiver for all loans taken by farmers, the minister said the BJP’s views are biased as the party is unable to digest good response from farmers across the state. The BJP’s three-day padayatra concluded in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Shivakumar also accused BJP of trying to divide the state by supporting those demanding for separate statehood for north Karnataka. Several organisations in North Karnataka have called for bandh in the region on August 2 protesting alleged injustice to the region in Chief Minister Kumaraswamy’s budget. Some BJP leaders have supported the bandh. The minister said the state government is working for overall development of the state and will not neglect any region.
