The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday after ruckus over the Rafale deal between India and France, and the Cauvery dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, PTI reported. The Winter Session of Parliament began on December 11.
The Lok Sabha resumed proceedings after being adjourned till noon as the Congress, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Telugu Desam Party MPs raised slogans. In the Lok Sabha and outside, AIADMK legislators protested against construction of a dam across the Cauvery river.
The Congress demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee inquiry into the Rafale deal and the Telugu Desam Party raised matters related to Andhra Pradesh. As many as 40 MPs descended on the Well of the House, prompting Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn proceedings.

On Tuesday, AIADMK MP V Satyabhama justified the disruption of Parliament. “We have to ask the Centre to intervene,” she told The Indian Express when asked how stalling Parliament would help her party’s agitation against the dam over the Cauvery. “Parliament is a forum to express our concerns. The Centre must direct the Central Water Commission to withdraw the permission granted to the dam project.”
Satyabhama also rejected allegations that the AIADMK raises such matters whenever the Centre wants to divert the legislature’s attention from a pressing matter.
