At a ceremony marking the beginning of construction for BEML’s new rail coach manufacturing unit, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made pointed remarks that appeared directed at U.S. President Donald Trump, though not by name. Responding to recent steep tariff hikes imposed on Indian exports, Singh declared, “Some ‘boss’ is jealous, unable to accept India’s growth; trying to disrupt the country’s economy.” He followed with a bold refrain: “Sab ke boss to hum hain,” signalling India’s self-assured emergence on the global stage.
Singh lauded India’s economic momentum, calling it the most “dashing and dynamic economy” in the world. He underscored India’s ascent from the 11th to among the top four economies globally and spotlighted defense export growth—from ₹600 crore in 2014 to over ₹24,000 crore now—as proof of its growing prowess.
These remarks came amid mounting trade tensions between New Delhi and Washington. Earlier this month, President Trump announced a sharp increase in tariffs—escalating to a cumulative 50% on Indian goods—citing India’s continued procurement of Russian oil as justification.
India has responded forcefully. Officials deemed the U.S. measures “unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable,” with signs of strategic recalibration underway.
The Defence Minister’s remarks convey more than rhetorical defiance—they signal India’s growing confidence amid geopolitical friction. As the tariff impasse intensifies, the comment “Sab ke boss to hum hain” serves as a succinct rebuke and a rallying cry for India’s continued ascent.
