“We are all BJP workers and we want the BJP to emerge victorious. We want that once again Modi ji should become the PM. It is important for the country,” Kalyan Singh was quoted as saying
Should the Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh have resigned first before publicly calling for the return of the BJP Government at the Centre?
As usual, news agency ANI, known to be aggressively pro-Government, was the one which tweeted Kalyan Singh’s public statement.
Kalyan Singh, who had failed to honour his commitment to the Supreme Court on Ayodhya when he was chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, believes that although he holds a constitutional and non-partisan office, he is not barred from making political and partisan statements.
In the tweet issued by ANI, the Rajasthan Governor says that re-election of Narendra Modi is a necessity for the country. He also claimed to be a BJP worker.
Even though Singh made the controversial remarks while speaking to ANI in his hometown Aligarh on Sunday, the news agency posted his comment on Monday morning triggering a huge controversy.
“We are all BJP workers and we want the BJP to emerge victorious. We want that once again Modi ji should become the PM. It is important for the country,” Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh was quoted as saying.
He made the remarks while referring to simmering resentment among local BJP workers over the Aligarh candidate, Satish Gautam. Some BJP workers protested outside Kalyan Singh’s home on Saturday. They complained that the candidate had never visited the constituency.
“BJP workers should accept the party’s decision,” said the Rajasthan Governor.

He had quit the BJP in 1999 and rejoined the party in 2004. In 2014, the 87-year-old BJP leader was appointed the Governor of Rajasthan after Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power.
His comments have invited scathing criticism with many wondering if the President Ram Nath Kovind is going to take cognizance of the issue.
Some of the reactions:
Tathagatha Roy wants to boycott Kashmiris. Kalyan Singh wants BJP to win again.
We don't need democracy now.
Declare Modi ji as emperor and Mukesh Ambani as the Crown prince. Life will be much easier.— Manoj Mishra (@ManojM66) March 25, 2019

Governors in a democracy are expected to be non-partisan.
But like so many institutions before it, BJP has reduced the post of the Governor to that of a political puppet!
Democracy faces its greatest threat from men like Kalyan Singh & the fascist ideology he espouses! https://t.co/e1xJ1TPtaS
