Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Rai has announced that the Congress Party and the Samajwadi Party will join forces to contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Speaking at a party workers’ meet in Basrehar block of Etawah district, Rai stated that the alliance aims not only to contest the elections together but also to form the next government in the state.
However, Rai made it clear that the Congress will contest the 2026 Panchayat elections independently, relying solely on its own organizational strength. He emphasized that the party’s grassroots workers are actively engaging with the public across villages, and the upcoming Panchayat polls will be a litmus test of their hard work and outreach.

Rai further added that those who win the Panchayat elections under the Congress banner will be considered for party tickets in the 2027 Assembly elections. “This is a workers’ election, and the Congress organization is taking it very seriously,” he said.
Highlighting the growing support for the party, the UP Congress chief claimed that a large number of people are joining the Congress, and the party’s membership drive is receiving overwhelming response.
The announcement is being seen as a significant step in opposition unity ahead of the 2027 polls, especially as both Congress and SP look to challenge the ruling BJP’s dominance in the state.
