Accusing the Modi government of “bizarre corrupt practices”, thousands of Youth Congress workers protested the Rafale scam in Delhi on Thursday.
In spite of the rain, Youth Congress workers gathered in large numbers near Jantar-Mantar and marched to Parliament. However, they were detained by the Delhi police mid-way. Later, they were held at Sansad Marg police station and were released in the evening.
“This protest was an expression of the mounting frustration felt by the people of India and complete failure of the government on the pressing issues of not only corruption in the Rafale deal, but also unemployment, inflation, farmers exploitation, atrocities against women and Dalits during successive parliament sessions,” said the Youth Congress in a statement.
“Who do not understand meaning of embracing fellow citizens even on holy occasions such as Holi and Diwali, how would they understand the importance of hugging and embracing individuals,” Raj Babbar said.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, President of the Youth Congress Keshav Chandra Yadav said that the condition of farmers has worsened during the Modi regime. “The current government is totally apathetic towards people’s demands, especially the requirement of our brave soldiers and farmers,” he said.
Addressing the gathering before their march to Parliament, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chairman questioned the integrity of NDA leaders. “People who do not understand the meaning of embracing fellow citizens even on holy occasions such as Holi and Diwali cannot be expected to understand the importance of hugging and embracing individuals,” he pointed out.
